Alpine descents, bike park black runs and the most demanding of enduro stage races, this forks soaks it all up and is the our choice for a custom build long-travel bike for this type of riding. This class leading fork in 27.5”/170mm spec weighs in at just shy of 2KG (sitting between the Pike and Lyrik at the weigh in) and packs a punch in all types of terrain. There are a huge number of options with the latest evolution of this fork (even a 26” option and e-bike optimized model) but one thing remains constant – the reassuringly stout 36mm legged chassis. These are premium forks, which combine not just excellent performance from a class leading chassis but show a no compromise approach to finish and detailing. Take a Fox fork from the box though and you are greeted with quality.

So what has the 2017 generation of this single crown bruiser got to offer? With keenly priced options such as the Manitou Mattoc available, and the popular RockShox Lyrik chasing its market share, there is strong competition out there. RockShox has very strong competition with the Lyrik fork but for us the 36 is still king of the all-mountain and enduro fork category and remains our favourite. It’s was a great fork and was truly back at the top of the list – and it’s remained there. As robust as any 160mm fork there has ever been, with damping quality that was both muscular and sensitive. Chassis alignment must be reset each time the front wheel is removed and reinstalled on both the Kabolt-X and 40 floating axles, but the end result is the same – perfect alignment and perfect performance.Fox delivered, big style.
FOX 36 FORK HOW TO
Floating sleeve positioning comes preset from the factory so if you are unsure of how to operate the floating axle system or simply don’t want to bother with it, you can just install the front wheel and get on with your ride.Īvailable optionally is the new Kabolt-X, a lightweight bolt-on floating axle exclusively for the all-new 36 and 38 that not only shaves grams but also increases torsional stiffness via its sleeveless, single-sided pinch bolt design. With this system, spacing is locked in via a floating sleeve, allowing repeated front wheel removal and reinstallation while maintaining perfect fork alignment. The all-new 36 and 38 come equipped with a new quick-release lever operated patent-pending floating axle system, combining the benefit of a floating axle with the ease of a tool-free quick-release. Floating axles provide much smoother suspension movement throughout the entire range of the fork’s travel, notably improving sensitivity and overall ride quality. Floating axles might look similar to other axles, but in fact they offer a distinct performance advantage due to their unique ability to match the exact width of the fork’s wheel mounting surface precisely to the front hub flange spacing, thus creating perfect chassis alignment and eliminating unwanted friction between the upper and lower fork legs.
